week nine: a wide world of comics

In this week, I read the Nikopol Trilogy, it is a  is a series of three science fiction graphic novels written in French by Yugoslavian-born Enki Bilal, published between 1980 and 1992.The original French titles of the series are La Foire aux immortels (1980), La Femme piège (1986), and Froid Équateur (1992). The books have been adapted into the video game Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals, published by White Birds Productions, and a movie, entitled Immortal. For a reader like me who is used to American comics, it would be very special to see enki bilal's works for the first time. because it is a pretty new style for me. But the book is loosely structured on narrative and consists of three volumes, which are mutually interconnected and retain a certain degree of independence. Even the selection of the split mirror and the dialog box in the three volumes are clearly different, just like three completely different directors. Trilogy for a series of movies. However, the trilogy did not follow the traditional narrative of Hollywood, and even the connection is obscure.  In addition, although this graphic novel is a science fiction theme, many intentions such as fascism and Mussolini, chess and boxing have historical irony and political satire, but this kind of irony is more ambiguous.  This may be the characteristic of European works. In terms of painting style and coloring, this style is not as impactful as popular comics, especially the expressions of characters, and there are few changes. Most of the time it is boring and monotonous. But this also forms a different picture book style, the overall picture and composition are more attractive than a single character. It gets me boring after I read it for a while just because of the art style of it. All I could say about this book is that it is not really my type.
